Tri-Cities Business Owner Jim Carey Wins
 Cruise Holidays "Golden Anchor” Award

                Also Named An Outstanding Sales Achiever and Inducted Into President’s Circle


Minneapolis, MN (November 23, 2011) —Jim Carey, a Kennewick businessman and owner of the local Cruise Holidays franchise, has been awarded the prestigious 2011 Cruise Holidays Golden Anchor award. Cruise Holidays, North America’s most successful cruise-specialty retail franchise, honored Carey with the surprise award during a special ceremony during the network’s Annual Convention.


The Golden Anchor award celebrates the franchise owner that stands out because of the following attributes: They must participate in Cruise Holidays programs, contribute to the success of the network by generating ideas or participating in focus groups, and generally be willing to help other franchise owners reach their goals. In other words, the owner must make significant contributions to helping fellow business owners while still fulfilling his or her original mission – to exceed their clients’ travel expectations. The Golden Anchor award is given to one store and one virtual office each year.


In addition to going above and beyond in the aforementioned categories, Carey also made it his mission to assist another franchise owner who was recently diagnosed with the debilitating Lou Gehrig’s Disease or ALS. Although the fellow franchise owner lives in Pennsylvania, Carey took on the extra clients as if they were his own, handling their bookings and tending to any other remaining details. "Jim did not see this extra work as a burden, but rather as the right thing to do, and he took on the additional work when his friend and colleague was facing a dire situation,” said Mark Schiffner, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Cruise Holidays.


Carey has worked diligently to transform his career in the Tri-Cities as a former television news reporter and anchor to his current role as an entrepreneur, becoming an active face of the business community in Kennewick.


"Jim is the type of person who seems to put everyone else before him – whether it is exceeding his clients’ wishes or providing a helping hand to his fellow franchise owners,” added Schiffner.


Carey earned two additional awards: He was named as an Outstanding Sales Achiever and he was inducted into the Cruise Holidays 2011 President’s Circle. The President’s Circle is open to the top Cruise Holidays stores and virtual offices. Carey was one of only three virtual offices selected. This year’s President’s Circle inductees will sail together on the Queen Mary 2 on a trans-Atlantic sailing in June 2012.


Carey joined Cruise Holidays as a franchise owner in 2006. 


This year’s Cruise Holidays Annual Convention took place aboard Holland America Line’s ms Eurodam, November 5-12, as it sailed an Eastern Caribbean itinerary.
